Conceptual Change

November 18, 2003: video conference minutes
Abstract of Video Conference

A major obstacle faced by teachers is that students often come with some naive knowledge or prior conceptions about the domain of study (Carmichael et al., 1990; Pfundt and Duit, 1991; Wandersee et al., 1994), many of which are incorrect, yet very robust and difficult to change. In Vosniadou (2002), she gave this description: ‚"students bring to the science learning task alternative frameworks, preconceptions, or misconceptions that are robust and difficult to extinguish through teaching‚".
